Background
Data pulled from some unlikely sources.
Data was gathered from the American Kennel Club, scientific journals, and the Government Accountability Office, then visualized in D3.js with a Riso-print aesthetic carried consistently across every illustration.
Detail
A palette dogs can actually see.
Dogs see primarily blue and yellow, so those became the project's core palette — and since dogs can't see red or read at all, red text marks information that's irrelevant to them, a tongue-in-cheek nod for the "guide dog" character. Ivy Presto Headline brings a touch of elegance that plays against the lighthearted illustrations, Roca adds a modern serif twist, and Neue Haas Grotesk keeps body copy clean and legible. Four hidden symbols tie back to the four working-dog job categories — guides, blue collar & misc, sniffers, and medical — small easter eggs for anyone paying attention.
